How the INSTANT IDEA SOURCE Works

The INSTANT IDEA SOURCE - call it I.I.S. (pronounced "eyes") - includes a list of over 4,100 "describing words." With these words, you can describe anything that exists. By combining a describing word with your subject, you create a new vision of your original subject that brings new ideas to your mind.

Pick Your Subject

What are you trying to accomplish? What problem are you trying to solve? Be as specific as you can. Remember: you get better answers if you ask better questions.

For example, let's say you are a student who needs ideas for a school science project. "Science project" is your subject. If you already know you want to do your science project on a particular area of science, like astronomy, then "astronomy" is your subject. And, if you have specifically selected "the moon" as the subject of your astronomy science project, then "the moon" is your subject for creating ideas using your I.I.S.

Note: You will get more specific ideas using "the moon" than using "science project." But, if you haven't narrowed your project choice to either "astronomy" or "the moon", your I.I.S. will help you create dozens of ideas for a subject.

Describing Words + Your Subject

Now, combine each of the describing words in the I.I.S., one at a time, with your subject. Ask yourself: "Could I make [your subject] [describing word]?" That is, "Could I make [the moon] [ablaze]?"

= New Ideas

Now, try to see that new picture in your mind. Does the picture help you think of a good idea for your subject? (Note: Don't ignore an idea because it seems crazy, at first. It may be a stepping-stone to a truly great idea.)

If the picture gives you a good idea, quickly write it down (or type it on your computer), and go to the next word. If no idea occurs to you, that's OK; you won't always get a good mental picture or an idea from every describing word in the list. Simply go to the next word...and, so on.

Note: If you don't know the meaning of a describing word in the list, use this opportunity to look it up in your dictionary and expand your vocabulary. You'll find that you'll remember the definition much easier when you are using the word to create new ideas.

After using just one page of your INSTANT IDEA SOURCE, you will be amazed by your growing list of creative new ideas.
